Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is considered a standard item in the Worldwide Car Hire Excess Insurance policy, on both Annual or Daily policy. It applies on trips around the USA and Canada, as well as the Caribbean, South and Central America. It provides cover for losses incurred from damage to a rental vehicle caused by fire, vandalism, accident or volcanic ash cloud. Additionally, CDW offers cover for theft, including unrecoverable theft, which is also known as Loss Damage Waiver (LDW).
In the USA and Canada, as well as other countries in North, Central and South America, car hire insurance may not be compulsory. Nevertheless, while you may think it would save you some money, it could still leave you legally responsible to pay exorbitant bills for certain damages and losses in case of a car accident. For this reason, it would be greatly beneficial to have Collision Damage Waiver in place to cover you for consequent claims against you.

Much cheaper than paying for excess cover on the day. I have claimed once before, this was paid out without issue. I was just in Sicily for 4 days and they were asking for £131 to cover the excess requirements, which was 4 times what CarHireExcess required for a full years cover - no brainer.
