1. Toyota Prius Hybrid:

This car has become the poster boy for Hybrid Cars since it began to be mass produced at the beginning of the 2000s. Some models will get you as much as 100 mpg+ (160km+) with both gas and an electric charge. It also runs quietly due to its hybrid engine making it ideal for small families.

  2. Hyundai i20 Hatchback 1.1ltr diesel:

A small economical diesel car, the Hyundai i20 has become a very popular to buy due to its fuel efficient nature. This particular model can get up to 88.3mpg (142km) making it a close second to hybrid cars.

3. Ford Fiesta 1.5ltr TDCI

This particular model and spec matches that of the i20 with 88.3mpg (142km) making it perfect for a weekend road trip with a few friends. Packing light is advised as the boot space can leave a lot to be desired.

4. Renault Clio 1.5 ltr dci

5. Honda Civic Sedan 1.5t Automatic

At only 42mpg (67km), the Civic Sedan may seem like a much less economical car than the others mentioned in this list. It is however, a much larger car than the previous models and so for bigger groups or families on US highways in particular, this will be a smart choice.

6. Mazda 5

Travelling as part of a large group or big family? The Mazda 5 will provide you with the best mileage for a 7 Seater MPV, whether you’re travelling in Europe or the USA. With mpg of roughly 28(45km), you’ll be able to carry your whole crew and their baggage wherever your holiday takes you.
